The list of accolades keeps getting longer for Macklin Celebrini.
The San Jose Sharks phenom has officially been named the 2026 IIHF Male Player of the Year, another massive milestone for one of hockey’s brightest young stars. At just 20 years old, Celebrini continues to build a résumé that already rivals players much older than him.
It’s yet another reminder that Canada may have found its next generational leader.
Celebrini’s incredible season stretched far beyond the NHL. Wearing the Maple Leaf, he was one of Canada’s most impactful players on the international stage, helping lead the country while showcasing the complete game that made him the No. 1 overall pick.

The IIHF’s official award announcement credits Celebrini with 40.8% of the vote, ahead of Connor Hellebuyck (20.4%) and Sebastian Aho (14.3%). The 20-year-old led the 2026 Olympics with five goals and finished second in tournament scoring with 10 points, helping Canada earn silver. He also captained Canada at the World Championship, producing 14 points in 10 games.
His international case was strengthened by his Sharks season: he recorded 115 points (45 goals, 70 assists) over 82 NHL games in 2025–26. The award is therefore not simply a reward for one Olympic tournament; it reflects excellence in both international and professional competition.
